About Us

History of Applied Behavioral Concepts, Inc.

Applied Behavioral Concepts, Inc. was founded in 2000 by Carol D. Vancil, M.A.  At that time, Applied Behavioral Concepts, focused on providing Applied Behavior Analysis services when only home settings for therapy options were available.

After a brief venture which organized therapy in a clinic, a second phase was offered by way of an agreement within a local preschool allowing Applied Behavioral Concepts to provide the missing component, social skills that can be provided by including other children.  The arrangement was successful and the preschool owner and Ms. Vancil opened a facility between April 2009 and April 2011.  While ideologically sound, the partnership proved not to be financially viable and dissolved in 2011. Ms. Vancil continued to offer inclusive pre-school with therapy integrated for the children who needed support until 2015.

The childcare portion of the company developed into educational opportunities with the Cardinal School, a nonprofit homeschool cooperative organization focusing on behavioral skills required to allow children access to academics and education, leaving Applied Behavioral Concepts to focus on the therapeutic services when needed in the Cardinal School.

Today, the Cardinal School is also embedded inside the same building as Applied Behavioral Concepts and may be an option to provide academics with behavioral skills in tandem.  This allows for goals to be supported as each child is also receiving individualized behavioral support throughout the day.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide our community a safe, caring, inclusive child development program offering an enriched learning environment to meet educational, social, and behavioral objectives and prepare students for higher levels of learning.

Vision

The overall desire in the creation of the Applied Behavioral Concepts, Inc. is to provide quality therapeutic interventions and high standards for utilizing our time with our students in multiple instructional strategies to improve deficits in areas of behavioral, adaptive skills, social and communication. We understand that we are an integral part of the families who chose to leave their children with us and we accept and assume an active role in the development of their child with love and concern for their wellbeing.

To meet these goals, we require our staff to value the professional relationship with the families and to conduct each day with the necessary structure and planning to implement the procedures necessary to meet our stated goals.  Each child and each family are to be treated respectfully by our staff and administration.  Registered Behavior Therapists should feel a sense of urgency and ensure that all children meet the goal, benchmarks, objectives and focus on using appropriate positive strategies and interventions to teach appropriate replacement behaviors.
